I know it’s been a while since I posted anything. My last post ironically was about a half marathon I ran more in a last minute kind of decision (registered <2 weeks before the race and didn’t really train specifically for it). Now I’m posting about my first marathon experience. I knew this marathon was coming up, but I still didn’t train specifically for it. I trained knowing I would be doing it, but with my long term goals as #1 instead of my performance at the marathon as being #1.

I’ve started to get back into training again after some time ‘off’. At this point I feel like I haven’t done enough that week if all I do is 15 miles of running, 50miles of biking and a mile or two of swimming. I waited some time to post about the race. The race was this past Saturday, about 5 days ago. It went incredibly well when you consider everything. Final time was 5 hours 39 minutes. Which is well under what I thought I could do not too long ago. We’re all (other racers) are pretty sure the swim was a short, probably by like 5 minutes or a little more. Perhaps I went out a little too hard on the bike knowing that my run was going to be harsh.

It’s the day before my race, just over 12 hours before I’ll be leaving my house. Nervous? not as much as I probably should be, but I’m sure that will come. It’s been 11 months. Amazing to think I was barely able to swim 400 meters as a workout, 20 miles on the bike would have be considered a full day, and I just started running a few months ago. Now tomorrow I’ll be doing WAY more than that in a row.

On Monday I rode my bike to work, like I do on occasions that I wake up with enough time. For about half the trip I’m on a rec path, but then ultimately end up on the road (120th Ave) that has a nice wide shoulder. On my way home from work though, it didn’t go so well.
