Post race resting can be hard

So post race is harder than you think.  You’ve been in a routine for months and all of the sudden you need to recoup.  You just can’t do the volume of activity you had done previously.  Your body needs rest, but mentally you’re still wanting to get out there and swim/bike/run.  So you do your best, you try to stay a little active still, but your performance will be lacking for a week or two.

I’m half an Ironman!

I waited some time to post about the race.  The race was this past Saturday, about 5 days ago.  It went incredibly well when you consider everything.  Final time was 5 hours 39 minutes.  Which is well under what I thought I could do not too long ago.  We’re all (other racers) are pretty sure the swim was a short, probably by like 5 minutes or a little more.  Perhaps I went out a little too hard on the bike knowing that my run was going to be harsh.

The final 12 hours… There’s nothing else you can do to prepare.

It’s the day before my race, just over 12 hours before I’ll be leaving my house.  Nervous? not as much as I probably should be, but I’m sure that will come.  It’s been 11 months.  Amazing to think I was barely able to swim 400 meters as a workout, 20 miles on the bike would have be considered a full day, and I just started running a few months ago.  Now tomorrow I’ll be doing WAY more than that in a row.

Derby’s Bike Shop in Thornton

Since my last post ended up being a post about the bike shop it made me think about another LBS I go to closer to home.  Derby’s Bike Shop in Thornton, CO.  It’s about 5 miles from my house and definitely the most convenient for me to go to.  I’ve been there numerous times, sometimes as many as 3 times in a day buying different tools and parts.  I looked at some bikes there when I was searching for my new ride, so I’ve also experienced their new bike sales experience.  I think that makes for a good overall view of what they offer as a bike shop.

Golden Bear Bike Shop in Broomfield… FAIL!

Madone 4.7 - 800x600Yesterday was the day!  The insurance check finally cleared and I was able to go pick up the new bike.  An ‘09 Trek Madone 4.7 with full Ultegra groupo.  It was definitely more expensive than what I got from the insurance company, but it was well worth the additional money I threw in to get it.
